The beloved Dutch Pot, affectionately called a 'Dutchie', has been a cherished cooking vessel for centuries and is celebrated worldwide! Its popularity soared with the release of the 1982 reggae hit 'Pass the Dutchie' by the British Jamaican band, Musical Youth. Crafted from aluminum in a traditional design, these pots come with sturdy lids.

Versatile and practical, the Dutch Pot can be used on the stove, over coals, or in the oven to prepare a wide variety of dishes, including stews, roasts, lasagna, cakes, brisket, bread, and curries—the options are limitless! While it is most often associated with Caribbean cuisine, the Dutch Pot is a staple in kitchens globally and is known by various names: Dutch Oven, Pateela (Asia), Cocottes (France), Tetsunabe (Japan), Sač (Eastern Europe), Potjiekos and Phutu (South Africa), Bedourie (Australia), Braadpan and Sudderpan (Netherlands).

After use, it’s best to clean the Dutch Pot with boiling water and a brush—avoid using soap. Once it dries, apply a light layer of cooking oil to prevent rust. Mustard oil is particularly effective due to its high-temperature resistance, though vegetable oil is also a popular choice. Store your Dutch Pot in a clean, dry place with the lid slightly ajar or removed to allow for air circulation. If you need to keep the lid on, place a paper towel inside to absorb any moisture.

With proper care, your Jamaica Valley Dutch Pot can last for many years! Please remember that the Jamaica Valley Dutch Pot is not suitable for use on an induction hob.
